Hot tracks ft Broken Records

BROKEN RECORDS – If The News Makes You Sad, Don’t Look on It.Rating *****
Beginning with a drunkenly twanging sea bass, this presently picks up steam with
string section harnessing the free energy of gyration folk music music, walloping up a storm of
magical euphoria which recalls The Waterboys when they were a rock band.
BEGGARS – The Future.Evaluation ****
Envisage the retro-melodies of The Coral belted come out with the impression of Richard
Ashcroft and you make Reading’s Beggars, wHO duly stamp their authority on
this Leonard Cohen song.
Sept – Shout out For You.Rating ****
Dance floor banger from the latest Swedish pop ace – wish the classic
electronic pop of Depeche Mode put to a foot-to-the-floor beat.
BRITNEY SPEARS – Break The Methedrine. Rating ***1/2
Indorse on the money with a classy shuffle of pop and beats, but the sexy cartoon
Britney in the video is a long way from holocene photos.
CLARE & THE REASONS – Rodi. Rating **1/2
Laid back cheer pop with a naive spell and breezy melody which walks the
all right line 'tween engagingly kitsch and annoyingly twee.
JAMIE LIDELL – Little Bit Of Feel Good. Rating ****
Soulful brass licks and genuinely punchy funk, the like of which
Jamiroquai canful only dream about. From record album JIM, released later this month.

BRANDI CARLILE – Gum terpentine.Evaluation ***
This Washington-born vocalizer boasts a remarkable and distinctive voice – deep,
late-night and perfective for this story of brokenheartedness and regret.
PORTISHEAD – Machine Gun.Rating ***
Industrial noises leave a sinister landscape for Beth Gibbons’ haunting,
folky vocals. A difficult introduction to their fresh record album Third, out at the
end of this month.
THE Final stage Shadow PUPPETS – The Age Of The Understatement.Rating ****1/2
First sense of taste of the coaction between Arctic Monkey Alex Henry Hubert Turner and The
Rascals’ Miles Kane. A runaway of galloping drums, orchestral string section and
speeding guitars which race crossways an Ennio Morricone-like soundscape.
THE RUSHES – Corners EP. Rating ***
Clipped, powerful vocals with urgent, jerky guitars. A vesication debut
outlet from the Jack London band wHO really have arrived with a bang.
